The pump evolution

Pumps have certainly evolved since the 1980s, with a diverse range of innovative designs now available for cosmetics and toiletry applications, writes Andrea Protti, marketing director of Rap International.  

Approximately 25 years ago, the pump emerged as a new marketing concept for the cosmetics and toiletries industry. Until then, the aerosol had fulfilled the dispensing role for fine spray-mist applications.  

However, in the 1980s the ozone ‘headache’ captured the headlines and because of a worldwide ‘bad press’ the structure of aerosols had to be re-evaluated.

Beverage labelling: challenges and opportunities

International label consultant Mike Fairley reviews labelling options for the beverage industry in terms of label materials, printing technologies, added-value solutions and future opportunities.  

Walk around any supermarket today and the range and variety of non-alcoholic beverages is enormous. Bottled water alone comes in a myriad flavours, varieties and versions, while carbonated beverages and soft drinks are of all kinds. Glass bottles, plastic bottles, cans, cartons – are all used, and the variety of labels presents a real challenge for brand managers in selecting the optimum solution.
