Owned and managed by Gavin Goodman, a seasoned authority in the beauty and personal care arena who maintains a hands-on management role, Dispensing Products has established a following throughout South Africa and beyond as a trustworthy and quality-driven supplier of high-end packaging components for the perfumery, cosmetics, personal care, household, food and beverage markets. Product decoration is another significant part of the total service package, including self-adhesive labels, sleeves, bottle printing, foiling and more. The business also provides R&D and stability and compatibility testing, as well as a contract packing operation.
Experienced sales specialist, Pia Penny, recently joined the Dispensing Products team as new business development manager, with a focus on sourcing top-grade packaging. ‘Brand owners are looking for different packaging styles and forms and rely on us to advise on products that will appeal to consumers and ultimately optimise brand performance and delivery,’ she remarks.
From luxury to commodity lines, Dispensing Products sources collections from leading international principals such as Aptar (formerly separated as Seaquist Perfect Dispensing, Seaquist Closures and Valois), Coverpla, Rieke Packaging Systems, Worldwide Dispensers and others.
The company’s recent significant growth is attributed to a close relationship with Coverpla, based in Nice, France, that offers a comprehensive range of standard and individual glass bottles and caps for the fragrance and cosmetic markets. Coverpla also provides decoration techniques including silkscreen printing on glass containers and on metallised caps. These products have proved popular and affordable for South African cosmetics and fragrances. ‘The local beauty and cosmetics market is much smaller than those in Europe and the Far East, with lower minimum order quantities and pricing pressures, which has to be considered when sourcing packaging,’ says Pia. ‘The aim is to propose packaging with the right aesthetic and technical aspects and then offer alternatives to suit the budget. Coverpla, among others, fits the bill in every way. ’
Diverse style options
Keeping abreast of international and local market trends means that Dispensing Products can provide customers with up-to-the-minute advice on new structures and trends. ‘Packaging styles and options vary, depending on the market sector,’ comments Pia. ‘For instance, in the personal care sector we’re seeing few changes in container forms. Innovation is directed more at pumps, closures and dispensing systems to differentiate products on-shelf. In cosmetics tubes, we see some clever one-piece express-closures as well as novel flip-top caps. Cosmetic lines are constantly evolving and it’s important to have a wide selection to offer local brand owners, in manageable minimum order quantities, of course.’
Other significant international trends include new trigger mechanisms for hair and suncare ranges, face creams and body lotions. Brand owners are also developing more 100ml travel containers, refillable atomisers and small fragrance bottles, to name just a few.
At Dispensing Products, there’s always a healthy mix of ongoing product development for both small and large customers, and Pia relishes these daily challenges. ‘Getting involved in project management and collaborating with a customer to realise a vision is a huge privilege and Gavin and I gladly share our knowledge and experience with customers to create the right product. It’s always a real pleasure to know that Dispensing Products has played a part in a company’s success,’ she concludes.
