Intrepid commissions KBA press

Intrepid Printers launched its most recent acquisition – a KBA Rapida 105, A1, eight-colour perfector – at a gala evening. Printing in full colour on both sides in a single pass, the press attains speeds up to 15 000 sheets/hour, or 18 000 sheets/hour on one side in a single pass. This is an improvement of some 25% over the company’s earlier KBA press.

The Rapida 105 is linked electronically to Intrepid’s plate-making department, allowing automatic alignment of ink settings. Additionally, the press is linked directly to KBA in Germany, where engineers can diagnose faults and take corrective steps over the internet. A further advantage is the computerised DensoTronic scanning facility, which ensures on-the-run colour consistency. This system has also been linked to the existing KBA Rapida 105.

‘It’s a tribute to the reliability and performance of our previous KBA, commissioned just five years ago, that gave us confidence to purchase a second press,’ remarks Intrepid’s MD, Trevor Cape.

He adds that this investment will keep Intrepid Printers at the forefront of printing technology in South Africa, and the benefits will be passed on to customers, with great print quality and swift turnaround capabilities.
KBA together with Thunderbolt Solutions commissioned the press in what Trevor describes as a superb effort, carried out in record time.
