The DPB-500 PUR, a single-clamp binder, was shown to provide accuracy and security on a range of publications, whether litho or digitally printed, including photo albums, journals, paperbacks, directories, manuals and catalogues. It incorporates a fully-automatic process, with simple access from one of 20 job memories via the touch screen monitor. All book parameters are accurately positioned within 30 seconds providing maximum productivity and precision.
It can be programmed to accommodate varying specifications – including book thickness, automatic side gluing and cover scoring. Further highlights include automatic set-up, closed PUR glue tank operation, secure and accurate book production, automatic glue pressure, up to six score positions, an air management system for covers, incorrect book thickness sensor, and light beam score position. Extra options are barcode, wing score and long conveyor.
Ultra coating quality
Also shown was the Ultra 205A, a stand-alone coater for applying all-over UV varnish to both digitally and offset printed sheets. Thanks to automatic set-up the Ultra 205A can be used in any environment and includes an air knife to prevent light stock sticking to rollers, a suction feeder for stock up to 350g/m2, length detection, automatic coating weight maintenance, a jam detector that lifts the UV lamp away from the paper path, touch screen control, and gloss, matt and silk finishes at 40m/min throughput. It’s typically used for magazine and book covers, postcards, photo books, point-of-sale, folding cartons, invitations, posters and direct mail.
Creasing without cracking
Digital printing requires creasing before folding in order to prevent unwanted cracking and the DC-445 Ducreaser handles this task. It’s designed to cope with short runs with fast set-up and multiple creasing options and handles an array of products such as greetings cards, two- and three-way folded leaflets, brochures, books, CD/DVD covers, menus, flyers and mailers. Optional perforating and slitting modules are available. The DC-445 runs up to 15 creases/sheet and 50 A4 sheets/min with a 110 to 350g/m2 nominal paper range and a step-by-step set-up panel.
Booklet-making made easy
Designed to provide a ready-to-go means of producing booklets from digitally-printed pages is the Duplo 5000 high-volume booklet maker. With four finish style options, it offers optical mark recognition to trigger the booklet-making sequence. For example, the feeder can take litho-printed covers to wrap around variable content digitally-printed inside pages. These pages can include different paper types; and inline trimming gives a professional finish.
With automatic set-up, the System 5000 handles 25 sheets/booklet, and up to 3 250 A4 books/hour. It’s ideal for merged fixed and variable content booklets, financial reports, training manuals, product specifications, customised catalogues and targeted marketing material.
Duplo’s DFS-3500 is an affordable all-in-one booklet-making system that’s ideal for short-run applications. By automating the finishing process required to create full-bleed booklets, it eliminates the need for a separate guillotine cutter and creasing machine. Time-consuming set-ups, wasted material and turnaround times are all reduced. Complete job set-up is effected from the user-friendly control panel; and up to 30 jobs can be saved for fast recall. The system’s ability to slit, crease, stitch, fold and trim in one pass makes it the perfect solution for applications such as calendars, catalogues, newsletters and more.
