The agreement with the US-based agency headed by Klaus Dietel and Mike McGuinness follows the proven adaptation of Goss Sunday web press technology for packaging printing requirements.
‘Variable sleeve web offset technology is gaining momentum as a high-quality, cost-effective alternative to flexo, gravure, sheetfed offset and traditional cassette-style web offset for many packaging applications,’ says Klaus Dietel. ‘By adapting proven Sunday press technologies to address the specialised requirements of this market, Goss has created exciting new possibilities for packaging producers to cut costs and achieve higher productivity and quality.’
The new Goss Sunday press models are available in narrow- and wide-web widths from 510mm to 1 905mm for flexible packaging, label and folding carton applications. They feature quick-change sleeve technology to allow variable repeat settings. The advanced inking, dampening and process control systems used in Sunday presses for high-quality commercial offset printing have also been incorporated, along with Goss automation and workflow technologies to reduce makeready requirements and waste.
These variable sleeve offset Sunday press models are available as complete production systems, including roll handling and converting components to meet various application requirements.
Graham Trevett, Goss’s VP sales in North America, says packaging printers have expressed interest in this new Goss variable sleeve web offset press due to its proven print quality, speed and low-waste efficiency. He reports that Goss recently installed a Sunday web press in the US that prints on packaging stocks and interfaces with an advanced in-line finishing system.

New screen white enables over printing
PULSE Roll Label Products, whose products are available in South Africa through Hi-Tech Inks, has announced the development of Combi SF, a UV curable, silicone-free opaque white ink for rotary screen printing. It’s formulated to be used as a first-down white for subsequent over-printing by letterpress and litho as well as screen inks or varnishes.
‘White inks for screen printing normally include silicone compounds to enhance ink flow out and surface evenness,’ explains technical manager, Chris Price. ‘However, silicon additives often make it difficult to over-print with other processes such as letterpress, litho, flexography or varnishes. Our new white formulation means that customers will be able to successfully over print on a wider range of processes and materials.’
Optimised for high opacity and whiteness Combi SF can be used with a number of screens including Gallus and Stork. A wide range of substrates can be processed including coated/treated PE/PP, PVC, polyester and some foils, subject to recommendations.
Pulse Roll Label Products has been supplying the label converting industry since 2000 and is part of the Pulse Group of companies. The company’s portfolio includes UV and water-based inks, coatings and adhesives, plus digital and special effect inks and varnishes as well as pressroom products and cleaning solutions.
