It works by self-levelling in the platen without the need to over-pressure the rule, and is said to be the only rule of its kind on the market today. On initial pressure, the back edges of the rules in the die plastically deform to accommodate all high and low spots on the platen, moulding perfectly to the job, and leaving the cutting edge razor sharp for optimal kiss-cut die-cutting.
According to Sandvik, the Dieflex Evo almost entirely eliminates the need for patch-up work, cutting down on preparation time and facilitating faster job turnaround times, in turn maximising operational machine time.
Evolving from Sandvik’s established and leading Dieflex range of die-cutting rules, the new edge hardened rule is manufactured from the same proven materials and shares the same benefits, but with the additional capability of self levelling. So, there is no change in the longevity of the cutting rule and its performance through rule-bending machines is also identical.
‘Extensive industry trials have been carried out throughout the development and introduction process of Sandvik Dieflex Evo, resulting in substantial operational benefits,’ explains Simon Sullivan of Sandvik Die-cutting Products.
‘One of our trial partners found that using the new die-cutting rules could result in significant savings on one machine in a year. Collectively, the trials proved that we achieved our aim of reducing patch-up time by at least 70%. The trials also showed a significant increase in the number of impressions achieved with Sandvik Dieflex Evo in an eight hour shift.’
It’s the ability to supply the correct rule for a given application that’s essential to ensure a good quality finish, run longevity, increased cutting life and reduced friction during the cutting process.
The extensive selection of innovative, Sandvik flatbed, rotary and special rules available from Flexo Printing Supplies meet the cutting, creasing and perforating requirements of diemakers and converters, whether working with paper, board, corrugated or plastics in the packaging and printing industry.
