Collectively, the two organisations have taken a stand to positively impact the South African packaging landscape not only through the successful development and conversion of recycled PET (rPET) packaging products but also through their continuous efforts to ‘paint the bigger picture’ of the recycling landscape by eradicating recycling myths and continually turning the focus toward factual information.
Qualified to exceed the standard
Being one of the first recyclers in the world to receive BRCGS accreditation, Extrupet’s focus remains collecting as many post-consumer PET bottles as possible, producing a top quality food grade chip branded as PhoenixPET® and partnering with converters like Mpact Plastics and Mpact Versapak to develop a plethora of rPET products such as PETZorb, meat trays, a range of fruit punnets, jars and bottles.
Extrupet’s commitment to safe, ethical business practices is further extended through its EFSA, ISO, GRS and SEDEX certifications and memberships. This made the decision to partner with the leading circular economy practitioner, Mpact Plastics, in developing rPET products, one that guarantees environmental benefit throughout the product value chain.

Food safety
Through this string of joint accreditations, both organisations confirm that only recycled plastic that is safe for food contact, is placed on the market and that the recycled plastic used during conversion is obtained from an authorised recycling process.
Through close collaboration, Extrupet, Mpact Plastics and Mpact Versapak promote a circular economy by maintaining the value of their products, materials and resources; returning them into the product cycle at the end of their use while minimising the generation of waste. This collaboration is truly an approach to smarter, sustainable solutions.
