Readers who received the printed copy were treated to a visual feast with the premium-look front cover. The PPM masthead was Unifraxion foiled, Foilworx’s mascot Foily was 3D embossed and the company’s logo was also foiled.
‘A creative challenge, like this cover design, provides the balance that chaotic creative ambition needs to thrive within a collaborative group structure. Although Foily and I had a couple of stressful moments, the celebration afterwards with a double squid on the rocks was absolutely worth it,’ remarks Banie Stafford.
According to Printafoil director Brett Sherman, the best results usually come from collaborative projects. ‘There’s always something to learn in this industry. By bringing together experts, you’re creating opportunities for better and more innovative and interesting solutions.’
He explains Printafoil is fortunate to have a multitude of printing solutions at its fingertips. ‘This allows us to ensure every delivery matches the previous one. It’s easy to print a job once, but being able to produce it year after year, within a very tight tolerance, is a completely different kettle of fish.’
Phumzile Dlamini, sales and marketing manager at Synchron, was excited to see and feel the cover for the first time. ‘We’re committed to delivering quality, service and innovation, and always strive to enhance a brand by making it stand out from the rest. Sustainability also forms an integral part of Synchron’s philosophy and we’re an advocate for foils as they provide a recyclable and sustainable option in achieving a premium look.’
Foilworx’s founder Andre du Plooy adds that Foilworx is always up for a challenge and commends his skilled and hardworking team. ‘We’ve realised that our success lies in teamwork and working with our customers every step of the way.’
Andre agrees with Phumzile that foiling is one of the premium options most companies opt for, however, he notes that it’s important to showcase other skills and finishing effects that local companies are capable of achieving. ‘Unifraxion foiling and 3D embossing are exciting to showcase as customers can elevate their designs even more with these interesting effects. They bring a product to life and give it more “body”.’
All three project partners emphasise that this front cover can and will be used as a powerful marketing tool, as it showcases their skills and capabilities. ‘We’re excited to share this front cover with PPM’s readers and the packaging print industry. It serves as an excellent example of when a customer presents a vision and the effort we put in to provide solutions and achieve the best possible end-result,’ Andre enthuses.
