When Eterna’s format VI automatic die-cutter was reaching the end of its technological lifecycle; Bobst Switzerland (100% owner of Eterna) had reached a similar point with its SP 142 E series. This created an opportunity for the companies to cooperate by sharing technologies and taking the best of both worlds in developing and launching the ECUT 1450 E – a new size VI automatic platen for die-cutting and stripping.
Bradley Bate, MD of Alliance Machinery, local representative for Eterna Brausse, explains that the ECUT 1450 E is built on a new structure and incorporates a completely redesigned feeder with a fully-automatic non-stop system. When this feeder is coupled with the auxiliary delivery table, including buffer function, automatic palletising and pallet ejection – converters can maximise their hourly die-cut sheet production.
According to Bradley, other notable features are platen deformation compensation that greatly reduces patching up and make-ready times, and a stripping station that enables quick fixing of waste removal tools, which further speeds up job changeovers.
Furthermore, thanks to the smooth gripper chain transport and upgraded platen drive mechanism, the Eterna ECUT 1450 E comfortably reaches its maximum running speed of 6 000 sheets/hour. Its robust design also enables the die-cutter to produce at this maximum output rate 24/7.
The Eterna ECUT 1450 E feeds stock from the top, so paper, folding carton, laminated board and even corrugated board are all well within its specifications. Bradley points outs that with a maximum sheet size of 1 450 x 1 100mm and a minimum sheet size of 580 x 500mm, this model offers unrivalled flexibility in terms of substrate and material range.
