These German-built machines have been purchased to allow MCG Industries to better serve customers in the beer, diary, beverage, baked goods and agricultural sectors.
As reported earlier this year (PPM May 2015), crate manufacture remains an integral part of MCG’s core business; and since taking charge of the business in 2013, MD Ian Victor has been intent on navigating into exciting new waters.
To ensure a sustainable business, significant investments in both infrastructure and technology are ongoing at the company’s ISO 9002-accredited sites in Malvern (Gauteng) and Montague Gardens (Western Cape). At both, the focus is on state-of-the-art injection moulding technology that will take the company to the next level of performance.
At the time of our previous report, this willingness to invest was underlined by the installation of the latest Haitian injection-moulding technology in Montague Gardens and now the news is the imminent commissioning of KraussMafei technology in Malvern.
‘This latest investment will allow us to supply better-quality crates at a reduced cost with improve speed to market for blue-chip customers such as SABMiller, Distell, Clover, Pioneer Foods, Premier Foods and Tiger Brands,’ explains Ian Victor.
Three of the new machines are high-technology machines suitable for double-cavity moulding, representing a bold step and a big technological leap by MCG Industries. As Ben Cockram, local agent for KrassMaffei, points out, producing crates at high speed involves processing a lot of plastic. ‘The beauty of this machine is its highly-effective plasticising, not only saving material costs but also ensuring improved productivity and lower energy consumption,’ he remarks. ‘Another plus point is its very efficient cooling system,’ he adds.
The fourth machine is designed around single-cavity moulding and represents the latest development in medium-size machines from KraussMaffei.
With its strong focus on world-leading injection moulding technology, MCG Industries is clearly playing a dominant role in the beer, beverage, diary, baked goods and agricultural sectors, providing a comprehensive array of standard and tailor-made products such as pallets, crates and trays.
