This year marks the company’s 25th anniversary – a milestone that reflects not only its resilience, but also its leadership in South Africa’s label printing and auto-ID markets.
When CEO Andre van Rensburg founded Andtech in 1999, the company operated as a small IT service provider, repairing computers, printers and barcode scanners. But it didn’t take long for Andtech to make a name for itself. ‘Our focus on exceptional service and quick turnaround times became the foundation of our success,’ recalls general manager Chris Hendriksz, who joined the company in 2000.
With the entry of Chris came a period of growth and diversification. ‘We saw an opportunity in the automotive supply chain,’ he explains. ‘Adding label printers, RF equipment and related services to our portfolio allowed us to expand into new markets and meet the growing demands of our customers.’

Innovation at the heart
In 2005, the company took a bold step by manufacturing its own labels. The acquisition of its first label converter marked a turning point, enabling Andtech to offer end-to-end solutions and broaden its customer base to include resellers. ‘Manufacturing gave us complete control over quality and delivery timelines,’ comments Chris. ‘It also allowed us to respond more effectively to market demands.’
The next significant milestone came in 2008 when Andtech partnered with TSC Auto ID, a global leader in label printer technology. ‘TSC’s high-quality and reliable printers aligned perfectly with our core values,’ he shares. A standout moment came when an automotive customer reported significant cost savings after switching to TSC printers. ‘That success story cemented TSC as our flagship product in the South African market.’
Andtech’s commitment to innovation didn’t stop there. In 2011, the company introduced a ribbon slitter to its operations, enhancing its product range and streamlining production. Over the years, Andtech expanded its production facilities three times, reflecting its steady growth and increasing demand for its solutions.
Recent upgrades to its ribbon manufacturing plant have further solidified its position as a leader in the field. ‘These improvements have allowed us to better serve our partners and customers by improving stock availability and reducing turnaround times,’ Chris notes.
According to him, Andtech’s success is built on three pillars: exceptional quality, outstanding service and competitive pricing. ‘Our approach has always been cautious and deliberate,’ Chris explains. ‘By focusing on risk mitigation, we’ve been able to maintain the highest service and quality standards while growing sustainably.’
This focus on delivering value extends to the company’s comprehensive product and service offerings, which include TSC label printers, self-adhesive labels, thermal transfer ribbons, Bartender printing software, a service centre for label printers and after-sales support.
Looking ahead, Andtech’s vision is clear: to strengthen its partnerships by consistently delivering exceptional service and high-quality products. ‘Our goal is to help our customers and partners thrive,’ Chris enthuses. ‘We believe that our success is tied to theirs and we’re committed to empowering them to succeed.’
As the company celebrates 25 years of achievements, it’s also a moment to reflect on the journey. ‘We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished, but we’re even more excited about what lies ahead,’ he concludes.
