Adolph’s lifelong dream – to market his own wine under his own label – came to fruition in 1947 with the establishment of the wholesale spirits company, Mooiuitsig Wineries, under the management of his son, Nicolaas Lourens. This was also the year in which Nicolaas Lourens completed his degree in viticulture. The wholesale company consists of several cellars on the farm Mooiuitsig and distributes products throughout South Africa.
Situated in Bonnievale, in the fertile Breede River Valley where the soil and climate lends itself to the vine and wine industry, Mooiuitsig Wineries is now proud to be the largest wholesale alcoholic beverage company that has been family-owned since inception.
Mooiuitsig recently launched three of its Rusthof wines in Pure-Pak cartons. They are Johannisberger – a delicately balanced sweet white wine, with tropical fruit flavours; Natural Sweet Red – a full bodied red wine, with pleasant berry undertones; and Natural Sweet Rosé – a naturally sweet rosé wine, with hints of Turkish Delight flavours.
According to Michelle Stead, Nampak Liquid Cartons’ sales and marketing director, the Pure-Pak carton provides the added functionality demanded by today’s consumers.
‘It also offers a dynamic and modern design with optimal pouring feature, as well as providing an opportunity for added tailoring and branding. We’re proud to be partnering with Mooiuitsig to bring a fresh new look to this range,’ Michelle adds.
A vintage pack
The modern Pure-Pak carton still bears the hallmarks and characteristics of the early beginnings (see page 71). It’s a vintage pack with a quality pedigree that still gives the premium food market a unique packaging vehicle for freshness, quality and taste.
As the gable top carton celebrates its centenary this year, it’s being honoured for its market longevity and its staying power in a world that has significantly changed over the last one hundred years. There’s no secret for this success – the Pure-Pak carton is lightweight, user-friendly and provides product protection properties that have maintained its popularity over the decades.
By combining local and international expertise, Nampak Liquid Cartons are able to provide beverage industry customers with world-class products backed by local market knowledge and expertise. The ‘customer experience’ starts with assistance in graphic design and continues right through to carton filling machinery and maintenance. Other benefits include full technical back-up and 24-hour service.
‘Our packaging solutions comply with the stringent quality and hygiene standards required in the food and beverage industries. Our international strategic alliances include Canadian Primographic Systems, Stora Enso, our paper supplier, and Galdi, filling machine supplier. These alliances keep us current with the latest technology and have also enabled us to develop technology specifically for Southern African conditions, concludes Danny Reddy, Nampak Liquid Cartons director.
‘Watch out for further Mooiuitsig brands in the Pure-Pak cartons!’
