Located in the heart of Europe, just north of Prague, with an annual capacity of 155 000 metric tons, PM7 took just over a year to build. Weighing some 6 000 tons, its construction involved no fewer than 550 truckloads of machine parts and 2 000m3 of concrete!
Applications for paper produced by PM7 include industrial bags, shopping bags, consumer bags, protective packaging, coating and lamination, ream wrap and other high-quality wrapping.
Stronger, smoother, perfect printability
The technical capabilities of PM7 offer clear advantages for converters and end users.
Thanks to excellent printability and surface properties this next-generation white kraft offers enhanced branding options. For example, its smooth surface creates outstanding gloss and top-quality print. Grades produced on PM7 also have a low breakage rates, optimised strength, high tear resistance, impressive bulk, caliper and porosity properties.
This is achieved through a special combination of top former and shoe calender.
The top former allows a high ratio of soft wood pulp to be used for excellent strength and guarantees even formation and profiles, while the shoe calender ensures enhanced printability at high gloss, delivering bulk, stiffness and caliper, and low roughness values.
In addition to these outstanding features, PM7 meets stringent environmental standards. Thanks to the integration of pulp to paper production, without the intermediate steps of drying and transporting the pulp, environmental effects are minimised and emissions are significantly reduced.
Indeed, the company claims, sustainability is a key element of PM7. Other contributing features include pulp production using an ECF bleaching process, the use of PEFC-certified wood, non-toxic chemicals and the recycling of all waste products.
As Clemens Willée sums up, ‘At Mondi, sustainability goes hand in hand with quality and efficiency throughout the development and production processes. Creating sustainable added value for all stakeholders is one of Mondi’s core principles and is a key element of its overall strategic and responsible approach to good business practice.’
