‘In previous years, we’ve donated our Tremnet netting to community gardening programmes and animal shelters. Another year we purchased warm, fleecy fabric and the staff spent time making up snug blankets for the needy,’ says marketing executive, Brenda Harris. ‘This is the third year we decided to do soup packs as hunger seemed the most pressing need for so many unfortunate people.’
The companies purchased all the ingredients and the staff participated in making up soup packs using in-house generated packaging. ‘This year, we managed to make up 500 packs, double the number versus the previous year. The packs contain a wholesome mix that each makes up approximately three-litres of thick soup, just by cooking it up with 2.5-litres of water. That’s 1 500-litres of soup, equating to about 5 000 meals,’ explains Brenda.
‘Instead of the companies merely donating to charities, we feel it’s important that our staff are also involved in the activity, creating a sense of comradery, pride and connection to the communities in which we work and live,’ she concludes.
